The clock is ticking. You need shirts for an event, a last-minute launch, or a surprise gift. You need them yesterday. We get it. At So Boss, we specialise in moving fast, but we can’t do it alone.

Your artwork is the engine. If the engine is broken, the car doesn't move. If your file is messy, your order gets stuck in the "fix it" pile. We don't want that. You don't want that.

Let’s get your design ready in record time. Prep. Upload. Print.

Why Does Artwork Prep Matter for Express Orders?

When you select an express option, every second counts. We have a strict 10am cutoff for same-day print and dispatch on DTG (Direct to Garment) orders. If we have to email you back and forth because your file is blurry or has a white background you didn't want, you’ll miss the window.

Want it fast? Give us great art. It’s that simple.

We handle the heavy lifting, but these five minutes of prep ensure your Premium Cotton Tee looks exactly how you imagined it. No delays. No stress. Just boss results.

Step 1: Pick the Right File Format (PNG vs. Everything Else)

What is the best file format for custom t-shirts? For express DTG printing, the answer is almost always a high-resolution PNG.

PNG files are the gold standard for digital printing. Why? Because they support transparency. If you want to print a logo on a black shirt, a PNG allows us to see exactly where the ink should stop.

  • Do use: PNG, PDF (vector-based), or AI (Adobe Illustrator).

  • Don't use: Low-res JPEGs, screenshots from your phone, or Word documents.

  • Avoid: Taking a photo of a drawing on a piece of paper (unless you’ve scanned it at high resolution).

If you are looking for a Vintage Wash Graphic Tee with a complex, multi-colour design, a high-quality PNG is your best friend.

Step 2: The Transparency Rule (No White Boxes!)

Do you want a giant white rectangle around your logo? Probably not.

This is the most common mistake we see. Many people upload JPEGs thinking the white background won't print. On a white shirt, you might get away with it. On a black, navy, or Bone Tee, that white box will be printed exactly as it appears in the file.

How to fix it in 60 seconds:

  1. Open your design in your software (Canva, Photoshop, etc.).

  2. Ensure the background layer is hidden or deleted.

  3. Look for the "checkerboard" pattern that signifies transparency.

  4. Export/Save as a PNG and ensure the "Transparent Background" box is ticked.

Check. Export. Win.

Step 3: Resolution is Everything (300 DPI or Bust)

Is your image blurry on your screen? If it looks "fuzzy" when you zoom in, it will look even fuzzier when it’s printed on a shirt.

Digital screens only need 72 DPI (Dots Per Inch) to look okay. For printing, we need 300 DPI. This ensures the edges of your design are crisp and the colours are solid.

How do I know if my resolution is high enough?

A good rule of thumb is the file size. If your logo file is only 20KB, it’s too small. If it’s 2MB or higher, you’re usually in the clear. Don't just "upscale" a small image by making it bigger in a document: that just makes a big, blurry image. You need to start with a high-resolution canvas.

Design. Scale. Deliver.

Step 4: Same-Day Dispatch – DTG vs. DTF

You need to know the difference to get your timing right.

DTG (Direct to Garment): This is our "Express King." We offer same-day print and dispatch for DTG orders placed before the 10am cutoff. This is perfect for 100% cotton items. If you are ordering a custom gift or a small batch of staff shirts, this is your go-to.

DTF (Direct to Film): We offer DTF across our full range, including hoodies, caps, and polyester sports gear. It looks incredible and is extremely durable. However, DTF does not qualify for same-day dispatch. It requires a different preparation process. If you choose a Sporty Contrast Hoodie or a Classic Baseball Cap, expect a standard turnaround.

Plan. Order. Relax.

Step 5: Fonts and Lines (The Fine Details)

Can we print tiny text? Yes. Should we? It depends.

If your text is so small that it’s barely legible on a screen, the ink might bleed together on the fabric. Keep your fonts at a reasonable size.

Also, if you are using a unique or custom font, "outline" your text. This turns the letters into shapes so that our computers don't try to replace your cool font with something boring like Arial.

  • Minimum line thickness: 0.5pt.

  • Font tip: Always convert text to paths or outlines before sending a PDF or AI file.

Lock. Flatten. Send.

Quick FAQ: Artwork Edition

Can you just "fix" my artwork for me?

We do a quick check on every order, but for express jobs, we don't have time for a full redesign. If the file is unusable, we’ll have to contact you, which pauses your order. To keep things moving, try to follow this guide!

What if I only have a low-res logo?

If you're stuck, reach out to our team at So Boss Contact. We can sometimes offer a redraw service for a fee, but this will add time to your order. It’s always faster to find the original file from your designer.

Do I need to worry about CMYK vs RGB?

Most digital designs are created in RGB (Light). Printers use CMYK (Ink). Most of the time, the conversion is seamless, but very bright, neon colours might look slightly more "muted" on a shirt than they do on a glowing phone screen. For the most accurate results, design in CMYK from the start.

The So Boss Checklist for 5-Minute Prep

Want to make sure you’re ready to hit "Order"? Run through this list:

  1. Format: Is it a high-res PNG or Vector PDF?

  2. Background: Is the background transparent (no white box)?

  3. Resolution: Is it 300 DPI at the size you want it printed?

  4. Garment: Did you pick a DTG-compatible item for same-day dispatch? (Check our Premium Cotton Tee).

  5. Placement: Did you specify where you want the print in the notes?

If you checked "Yes" to all five, you are officially a boss.
